Pentax has launched two new cameras before PMA. The 5 mega pixel Optio50, a compact, lightweight digital camera that is aimed at the novice or beginnerthat will be available in April priced £149.99.

The main focus of the model is a “Simple” mode that allows the user to quickly choose an icon that matches the subject at hand and have the camera select all the optimal settings automatically for the best possible results.

The camera features a 3x optical zoom, 1.8in LCD diplay, and 128Mb in-built memory.

Powered by two AA batteries rather than a rechargeable one, measures 91 (W) x 61 (H) x 27 (D)mm*1 and weighs 130 grams excluding batteries and SD memory card.

Pentax also launched the S5n, also a 5 megapixel model that features a proprietary Sliding Lens System to create the 3x zoom lens Optio S5n, which is just 20.5 mm wide and a 2in LCD monitor. Avialable in march the unit will cost £249.99

Powered by a recharge battery the Optio S5n has 9.3Mb of memory built in and dimensions of just 83 (W) x 52 (H) x 20.5 (D)mm and weighs 105 grams excluding batteries and SD memory card
