Panasonic has launched two new Lumix FS series models – the new 10.1-megapixel DMC-FS7 and 8.1-megapixel DMC-FS6.
Offering a F2.8 Leica DC lens and with 4x optical zoom (equivalent to 33mm-132mm on a 35mm film camera), both models have an "Intelligent Auto" that provides image stabilisation, intelligent ISO control (up to ISO 6400), face detection and intelligent scene selector
The FS6 and FS7 boast Panasonic's Venus Engine IV, that claims to feature advanced signal processing technology for rendering high quality images and super-fast response times.
The shutter release time lag is around 0.007 seconds while in burst shooting mode the DMC-FS7 can snap 2.5 shots and DMC-FS6 can snap 3 shots per second at full resolution, that increases to 6 and 5.5. in high-speed burst shooting mode.
The FS7 gets a 2.7-inch (2.5-inch for DMC-FS6) 230,000-dot high-resolution LCD, complete with "High Angle" mode that is said to make the LCD screen easy to view when the camera is held high, such as when shooting over a crowd.
Offering slideshows complete with music as a playback option, the FS6 and FS7 can record WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second in 16:9 format.
Bundled with PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0 software, the DMC-FS7 will be available in silver, black or pink and the FS6 in silver, black, red, blue and pink from February. Pricing not yet given.
