Nikon has announced the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED.

The new Micro lens will arrive in March and is priced £379.99.

It allows photographers to shoot 1:1 life-size close-ups without the need for any other accessories.

A world first for an interchangeable Micro lens for SLRs, claims Nikon, the optic is built 12 elements in 9 groups including two aspherical lenses which are employed to correct spherical aberration and coma.

Also - the Nano Crystal Coat reduces ghosting and flare caused by internal reflections.

An additional ED glass element minimizes chromatic aberration.

Another key feature is the Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which is built into the lens body for quiet autofocus operation.

Focus modes include M/A (Manual-priority Auto) to enable rapid switching between autofocus and manual focusing with "virtually no time lag, even during autofocus operation".
