Nikon has announce a new student competition in association with the British Journal of Photography for young photographers.

According to Nikon, The Nikon Discovery Awards have been designed to specifically support students and colleges around the UK and Ireland by inviting them to join the new Nikon Academy and provide a platform for photography students to showcase their work, on a national scale.

To join the Academy, colleges must enter five of their best student folios into the competition for the chance to win share of more than £50,000 worth of prizes.

Colleges entering the Academy will also be offered a range of exclusive added benefits delivered by a dedicated Nikon Pro Support member, including specialised Nikon training, seminars, Nikon discount vouchers and use of a dedicated hotline number for specialist technical support.

Entries for the competition must be submitted by 30th October 2007 and a panel of independent judges will select a shortlist of entries.

A selection of entries will be exhibited at Nikon’s Solutions Expo at on 27-28th November 2007, where the runners up will be announced and the winner will be awarded the grand prize at a formal awards ceremony.
