Canon has announced the tidy-looking HG10 AVCHD high def capable camcorder.

Based on the design of the previous HR10, this offers a 40GB hard drive for recording your video too, rather than DVD.

Those 40 gigs will give you capacity for 15 hours of 1920 x 1080 resolution video.

The HG10 also boasts a Canon 10x HD Video lens, Canon Full HD CMOS image sensor, Canon’s proprietary DIGIC DV II Image Processor, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization and Instant AF.

In addition you can take 3.1-megapixel photos and save them to to a miniSD card and there's a new easy-to-use Navigation Control Dial.

A Japanese and American announcement only at this stage, the Canon HG10 HD Camcorder will have an estimated price of $1299.
