DivX has announced a new version of its software for Mac users that allows them to, for the first time, play back protected, DivX-formatted, VOD content.

The new software, available from today, also promises to take advantage of performance gains provided by Universal Binaries across all the applications in the DivX for Mac bundle.

Those who download the DivX for Mac bundle can use the DivX Codec, either as a plug-in for Quicktime or with the stand-alone DivX Converter software, to encode video into the DivX format, which will ensure playback of their files on the over 90 million DivX Certified DVD players, portable media players, and other devices available.

The full version of DivX for Mac 6.7 is available for download on DivX.com for $19.99 USD.

There is also a free version available that includes a 15-day trial of the DivX Converter and a 6-month trial of DivX Codec for Mac with Pro features. The ability to play back DivX videos does not expire at any time.
