Sanyo has added another Xacti camera to its line-up of camcorder/still camera hybrid devices.

The Xacti VPC-CA6’s main selling point is that it’s a splash-resistant, 6MP camera that can be used outdoors during sporting activities like skiing, trekking, or on the beach. It received an IPX4 rating, meaning that water spray or snow won’t get into the camera, and it can be used safely with wet hands.

In addition to recording 6MP still images to SD or SDHC memory cards, the new Xacti also records 30fps video in MPEG4 format, with 640 x 480 resolution. With the new 4GB SD cards available, the camera can shoot over 4 hours of continuous video.

Other features include PictBridge functionality, Snow and Beach mode to optimise settings for difficult conditions that usually throw off light meters, a 2-inch flip-out LCD, and a 5x optical zoom lens.

The CA6 also incorporates a Digital Image Stabiliser to ensure that video shot on even the highest zoom levels come out still and sharp.

The pistol-grip CA6 is available this month for around £300, which includes a 1GB memory card.
