Winnie the Pooh for many is the iconic childhood read. A. A. Milne's beautiful stories remain, even to this day, perfect reading material for your kids.
With this iPad and iPhone app, the world of Winnie the Pooh has been brought to life. Animated versions of the original drawings by E.H.Shephard back in the 1920s are dotted across each page and the stories are read aloud by Rufus Jones. This is the first time the pictures have been animated and they look fantastic.
Classic Winnie the Pooh
- Free (in app purchases)
Book prices are £1.99 per title, with Winnie the Pooh and Some Bees included free. There is also an optional download of historic Winnie the Pooh material, also £1.99, which shows you the entire history of the famous bear.
The animation and colours in each book are beautiful and a real testament to how well E.H. Shephard's drawings have stood the test of time. Tapping each picture will start a short animation complete with sound effects. Although they aren't hugely complex, they are perfect for adding a bit of colour to each story, especially if this is the 900th time you have read it to your kids.
Alternatively of course you can opt for Rufus Jones's voiceover, which can be switched on or off at any point in time during the application. It turns the app into an incredibly relaxing audiobook and makes it perfect for getting kids to quieten down or fall asleep.
Navigation, which is done by swiping left to right, is simple enough that even the youngest of Pooh-bear fans can enjoy it. Tapping a picture to watch animations is also very easy to work out. The actual A.A. Milne stories might be a little too complex for some earlier readers, but read aloud, most will understand.
Right now there is only one extra story to buy through the app: Pooh goes visiting and gets into a tight place. More are promised however, including one that features the iconic Tigger. A great app and one that easily does justice to one of the most iconic kids' characters ever created.
