Yesterday's App of the Day, Bike Baron, is an incredibly addictive game, Sorry if we've got you hooked.

And today's offering also scores highly on the obsessive factor, although there's a lot less skill involved. And, whilst it's probably aimed at kids who aren't yet out of their junior school apparel that doesn't mean that the dads can't enjoy it too.

Actually, enjoy might be a bit strong....

Ben 10 Alien Locator

If you are not familiar with Ben 10, allow us to give you a brief bio. It's a hit kids cartoon that follows the adventures of Ben Tennyson who, with his device The Omnitrix, can transform into ten different species of alien to fight off various baddies. That's as much as you need to know really.

In terms of this game, the premise is simple. You are presented with a grid of 64 tiles, each with an image of one of Ben's alien forms in it.

You simply tap the tiles that match the indicator until they are all gone. When you tap a tile beware that it drops the line down so be wary of trying to be too clever or you'll end up tapping the wrong type of tile and losing points.

The points counter starts at 1000 and counts down. At the end of each level your performance is judged by way of a test tube filling up with green goo and your score is recorded. If you're happy with it, move on to the next level (and even post it on Facebook). If you think you can go quicker, try again. And again and again and again and again.....

But it's not as straightforward as that. The tiles, as well as being graphical representations of the aliens that young Tennyson can morph into, also have coloured tags in four different positions. In the early levels these tags are always in the top right so you don't need to worry about them.

But, the crafty so and sos, by about level 5 the tags start moving. And changing colour. Hence it's not simply a case of studying the aliens anymore, you have to deal with the tiles too.

And, just when you think you've mastered that, you accidentally push two tiles at once. And you realise that the game supports multi-touch. So you then have to go back and try to beat all your best scores, thinking that by smashing two or three tiles at a time will lead to a quicker time. It doesn't, by the way - at least not for us.....yet.

Ben 10 Alien Locator isn't the most intricate puzzle game in the App Store. And the lack of variation gets a bit tedious after a while. But boy, is it addictive. It's like cartoon crack, you'll keep coming back for more even if you're not sure why.
