For the duration of the London 2012 Olympics, EDF Energy will be gathering up tweets about the games before projecting them on to the London Eye as part of a nightly lightshow.

The first show will be unveiled by Olympic gold medal decathlete Daley Thompson, who spoke of his excitement at being part of the social media campaign: 

“Hosting the Games in London is an incredible once in a lifetime event and as a passionate supporter of the Games I want everyone to get behind the athletes and really show their support.

“We need to get behind our favourites to power them on to gold. EDF Energy of the Nation gives you a really easy way to join in, wherever you are, and help drive a world first every night on the EDF Energy London Eye  - a light show powered by the nation’s tweets.”

As well as tweets, the lightshow will involve the Union Jack being beamed on to the iconic landmark in gold, silver or bronze depending on the team GB’s medal haul for that day.
