Samsung set the rumour mill a-spinning this morning when a tweet from its Romanian based feed hinted at a new Nexus phone in the works.

The tweet came as a response to an article posted on go4it and read "Yes, next Nexus will be Samsung AMOLED Super HD."

They have since backtracked claiming that the Twitter slip up was in fact an error by someone in its agency.

"The earlier tweet on Nexus smartphone was uploaded by our agency by mistake. It is based on rumor and not officially confirmed from Samsung Romania. We apologize for any misunderstanding and confusion caused in response. Thank you."

Thing is, if it was uploaded accidentally from within Samsung, they are clearly discussing new Nexus plans. As such it pretty much confirms that Sammy will be making the new Nexus phone.

There is however plenty other goodies to be loaded into the current Nexus rumour wagon. First up is that HTC plans its own take on the Nexus handset. A post on a Facebook fan page cites sources that state a new Nexus 3 will be HTC made and feature a dedicated Google + button like that of the ChaCha.

Also rumoured is that the new Nexus handset will be the first Ice Cream Sandwich powered phone and manufactured by both HTC and Samsung in two separate guises. There is even a few specs for the supposed 'Nexus Prime', included a whopping 720p display and 1.5GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9.

Good news then for those desperate to taste the flavours of Google's latest Android incarnation.

Ice Cream Sandwich? Or Gingerbread good enough?
