Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 has gone RTM on Wednesday meaning the 22 October launch date is "Green for go".
The news, which has virtually no relevance to consumers, only confirms that the company's latest operating system has had sign off to be published and pushed out to manufacturers like Dell, HP, Acer and Lenovo.
All that is left for the company now is to try and make as many copies of the new OS as quickly as possible, to insure it has enough stock for the launch and the Christmas season.
"The RTM code will be delivered to our partners within the next few days who will then start preparing to deliver some amazing new products timed to hit at General Availability (GA) of Windows 7 on October 22nd. And going forward, I expect to be showcasing MANY of these new products here on The Windows Blog", the company said on its official blog.
Expect pirate copies to no doubt start appearing on the Internet within the next couple of hours.
