We brought you the news that Microsoft's free security software, codenamed "Morro" would launch very soon - and it has - but not for those in the UK.

The Microsoft Security Essentials beta is now available now in the US for download for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, but anyone in the UK trying to get the software will be met with a "not available in your country/region" message.

MSE is described as a "free, real-time consumer anti-malware solution for fighting viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans" and is available for the first 75,000 users that find themselves inhabiting an approved region.

For the rest of us, a beta "refresh" or release candidate version is expected later on in the summer, at which point Microsoft will presumably open access up to more PC users.
