Google has announced that it's created a mobile version of iGoogle - its personalised homepage service - customised for the iPhone and Android platforms.

The current implementation of iGoogle on mobile phones leaves quite a bit to be desired, and isn't really suited to a touchscreen interface. The new beta version features much richer content, and a finger-friendly set of buttons.

It still doesn't quite have the functionality of the full desktop version - there's no Flash gadgets available, but there are tabs, in-line display of articles for feed-based gadgets, and the ability to have different layouts on your mobile and on your desktop.

If you'd like to try it out, go to igoogle.com in your phone's brower, and select "Try the new Mobile iGoogle!".
