This time last year the iPhone was a mere rumour in blog land but it has now just come top of Google's zeitgeist lists.
"iPhone" was the most searched word on Google this year.
Ranking top in both the US, and globally, among the 10 most searched terms, Marissa Meyer, Google VP of search said: "It became increasingly popular throughout the year, starting with the announcement in January and continuing on with the release in June".
As well as the iPhone, the top ten list in the US included four social networking sites — Webkinz, Club Penguin, MySpace and Facebook.
The other five were entertainment searches — celebrity news outlet TMZ, Transformers, YouTube, Heroes, and Anna Nicole Smith.
"In search, there’s a lot of interest in celebrity culture, television and movies", Mayer said.
