As we pointed out on Valentine's Day, if we were to cover every Google doodle, we'd be doing one every second day or so. However, we did say that we'd highlight the more inventive whenever they appear. Certainly, today's celebration of Douglas Adam's 61st birthday is worthy of our - and your - attention.

As he was the author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novels (alongside the Dirk Gently books and several Doctor Who storylines), there really is no more-fitting tribute than a HG2G reference. You get to play several recognisable but silent entries on the on-screen version of the intergalactic guide, which looks very much like a Kindle.

The Babel Fish is covered. As is the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster. We'll leave it to you to guess the rest, as that's half the fun.

It's also good to see that the TV edition of Marvin the paranoid android appears in preference to the film version. Which was just not the same. Not the same at all.

Google has also posted a trailer for the Douglas Adams Google doodle. No, really. A trailer. For a doodle.

Not that we're complaining, mind.
