Google has added weather forecasting to its armoury - bringing in forecasts from into its Google Maps platform.

The addition works via a layer, and will show weather icons all round the world. If you zoom in and click an icon you can get a more detailed breakdown for your desired region, with a four day forecast complete with temperatures, wind speeds and humdities.

If you zoom out, you can even see cloud coverage - with the data for this aspect provided by the U.S. Naval Research Lab.

"Whether you’re organizing a trip overseas or a picnic at a local park, knowing the weather forecast is a crucial part of the planning process," said Jonah Jones, user experience designer.

"Today, we’re adding a weather layer on Google Maps that displays current temps and conditions around the globe, and will hopefully make travel and activity planning easier."

So that's weather now ticked off of Google's world domination check-list. For now, at least - the company is no doubt working on a Mr Burns type machine to change the weather at will.
