Sharp has been talking up its glasses-free 3D phone at both IFA (where Pocket-lint got hands on with a prototype model) and Cetac, and now the device has come to life in the real world, with the announcement over in Japan of the Sharp Galapagos 003SH and 005SH Android handsets.

Both devices are packing Froyo and have 3.8-inch screens with 800 x 480 resolutions. Powered by 1GHz Snapdragon processors, the 003SH lacks the physical QWERTY of the 005SH, but has an extra few megapixels, 9.6 compared to 8, on its 720p-capable camera.

Capcom has jumped on board the 3D launch, with Ghosts 'n Goblins, Mega Man and Resident Evil to be preloaded on the devices.

The 003SH is due out in Japan in December, with the 005SH following in February. There's no news yet with regards to availability in the western world.

Oh, and if you were thinking that you'd heard the Galapagos brand before, then 5 points, because it's also the name of the the latest Sharp ebook readers.
