Andy Warhol once said, "I'm the type who'd be happy not going anywhere as long as I was sure I knew exactly what was happening at the places I wasn't going to".

Warhol would have loved Google Place Search then, the Big G's latest attempt at revolutionising our searches.

And it's not just pop-art recluses who'll benefit from the service - as the idea of Google Place Search is to give you a better understanding of a venue before you've even left the house.

Google Place Search gives you local, clustered search results around specific locations making it easier to make comparisons, see what's on offer and what other people think.

The results are marked with red pins, and each one has relevant information for specific places with multiple links, including reviews from the likes of TripAdvisor.

Google Place Search results will begin appearing automatically on Google when it thinks that you’re looking for local information. There will also be a new link for “Places” in the left-hand panel bar.

It's showing up for Pocket-lint on Google UK now, give it a try for yourself.
