There's been no official announcement from Google yet, but it's been confirmed by the other party involved that Google has bought out social networking start up Aardvark.

Aardvark was founded in 2007 by two ex-Googlers and offers a different way to search for answers - rather than trawl the Web it asks the query to friends and friends of friends - perhaps inspiring Google's "Social Search".

Neither terms of the sale, nor price paid have been disclosed, but TechCruch reports Google paid $50 million for the company, which has so far raised $6 million in venture capital funding.

We'll have to wait and see whether Google uses the Aardvark team's expertise to improve its fledgling Social Search or has more ambitious Buzz-related plans for the service.
