The Cloud announced has recently that it has launched a location-based voucher service for millions of Wi-Fi users in Britain.

As a BSkyB subsidiary, The Cloud provides public access Wi-Fi in the UK through more than 18,000 hotspots. The company's new location-based vouchers are a trial feature as part of its three-year-old Wi-Fi app, called FastConnect, enabling registered mobile users to discover promotional deals near them.

A few of the venue partners at launch include Krispy Kreme, Orchid Pub Group and Spirit Pub Group, although more venue offers will be added over time. There are more than 680 venues on The Cloud's network, such as Pizza Express, Pret A Manager, Wagamama and more.

Location-based vouchers by The Cloud seem similar to other services provided by rival Groupon, a popular deal-of-the-day website, and Facebook's Deals, which allows Facebook users to check-in from places and grab discounts, coupons and free merchandise.

The Cloud said venue owners could upload and change their own offers in real-time via an online portal, allowing more accurate data on stock availability and up-to-the-minute deals.
