Facebook has invited members of the media to a press event at its Menlo Park headquarters next Thursday, 7 March.

The event invitation reads: "Come see a new look for News Feed." The News Feed, of course, is the centre of the Facebook homepage that lists status updates, photos, videos and more from people and Pages that you follow on Facebook.

The social media company hasn't revealed the specifics of its new News Feed, but a report from TechCrunch in January noted a redesigned mobile News Feed that included a look that crosses between Flipboard and Microsoft Metro, ditching the blue and white Facebook has gone with for quite some time.

It's not clear if the News Feed changes will extend to the web version. The last time Facebook released a major update for its iOS and Android apps was in November 2011 with the new slide-out menu design, so it's definitely needed.

Early this year Facebook revamped its search UI with its new Graph Search feature.

Facebook's event on 7 March begins at 10am PST (6pm in the UK). We'll bring you the latest.
