Facebook has updated Facebook Messenger to allow users to send voice messages, in what could become quiet a disruptive offering from the social network.

In a note to Pocket-lint, the company confirmed that people will now be able to send a quick voice message to friends via Messenger on iOS and Android.

"Just tap '+' next to the box where you write a message, then tap 'Record' and hold down the record button to talk.  When you're ready to send, just release the button," Facebook explains, on how to use the new feature.

Users won't be able to hold actual voice phone calls yet, with that feature promised in the coming weeks. However they will be able to send audio messages to each other, making those birthday greetings even more friendly.

When the voice call option does go live, expect your Facebook friends to want to talk to you as well as share pictures of their latest exploits.
