Everyone loves a good status update. Be it such brilliant insights as your friend notifying you of a new haircut or perhaps say the news of Bin Laden's death being shared. Either way both are no doubt useful nuggets of information.

But what topics have been the most popular to trend across the big blue social network? Announced on the Facebook blog is a list of what the world has been talking about in 2011. Some are more surprising than others. A few even show the influence that the United Kingdom has on the rest of the world.

There is now a special 'memology' tab planted on Facebook profile page to show off all the topics people have been talking about this year.  What was number one? Well that is easy, the death of Osama Bin Laden. Amazingly the Royal Wedding managed to make its way in at sixth. Even more incredible is that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is sat in eighth.

In the UK it was the riots that followed closely behind the Royal Wedding, with TOWIE just one place behind unfortunately. These sat above major global events like Gaddafi's death and Bin Laden's. Those who want to find out more should check out the interactive page on Facebook
