Like to zoom in on your friend's photos on Facebook to get a better look when using your iPad? Well, tough luck, because you can't do that anymore.

The pinch to zoom function has been disabled, meaning that you're stuck with the standard size, which is more than a little annoying as not only is it instinctive to pinch and zoom on an iPad - the text is now all a bit small (for our old eyes, at least).

TUAW is reporting that the zooming features have been disabled as a result of a line of code which reads:

meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0; user-scalable=0;"

And it's the "user-scalable=0" bit that's doing the damage.

The obvious question is, why?

Could it be that Zuckerberg doesn't want people Facebooking from their iPads? Unlikely, as that would mean cutting off a huge number of users.

A more likely explanation is that Facebook is readying its official iPad app, and the lack of pinch to zoom could be used as an incentive to download the app.

Maybe that's what Jobs and Zuckerberg were talking about when they did dinner?

If you are really struggling without zooming, try Atomic Web Browser, which is free in the App Store.
