Another Apple patent application filing has come to light suggesting that the producer of iProducts has ambitions to get inside your motor.

The patent, revealed by AppleInsider, is for an "in-car navigation system focused on maintaining driver safety while a vehicle is in motion".

The filing points out that current GPS solutions can be dangerous as drivers have to take their eyes off the road to use them and suggests ways of "locking down" such a system to the driver when the car is moving.

The alternative proposed by the patent is to make sure the front-seat passenger only is authorised to access the device either by sensors or biometrics.

Not a solution we think will prove popular, or indeed practical, other areas of the application cover a touch-based interface, along with voice-enabled functionality.
