Movie downloads have been available via iTunes stateside since January, and the service went live in the UK in June, but it has only just been made available for iPod and iPhone owners down under.

Apple fans in Australia and New Zealand can now rent and buy movies from studios including 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros. Entertainment.

In fact, more than 700 films are now available for rent or purchase with new release titles available for purchase on the same day as DVD release.

iTunes movies in Australia start at A$9.99 for catalogue title purchases, A$17.99 for recent releases and A$24.99 for new releases.

iTunes Movie Rentals are A$3.99 for library title rentals and A$5.99 for new releases, and high definition versions are priced at just 1 dollar more.

And Mac Rumours suggests that Antipoedian iTunes movie renters will get to keep their films for 48 hours, compared to the 24 hours you get in the States.
