Apple, it seems has worked through the night to close the DRM FairPlay security hole in its iTunes Software following the announcement that DVD Jon had cracked the software application. (see previous story)

“The security hole in the iTunes Music Store which was recently exploited has been closed, and as a consequence the iTunes Music Store will now sell music only to customers using iTunes version 4.7”, the company said in a statement.

Apple has also stated that around 15 percent of its iTunes customers would have to upgrade to the latest version of the software iTunes 4.7 if they wanted to continue to download music in the future.

Because of a flaw in the software the crack meant that users could download music from the site and then freely swap them with other users or transfer them to other MP3 players other than Apple's iPod series.
