PLDS has announced the release of its new external DVD-ROM drive, the eTDU108. It's a reader, not a writer, but might suit netbook owners who occasionally need to get something from a DVD.

"External DVD-ROM drives slowly disappeared from the market when the DVD-writer market emerged. Now that notebooks without optical drives on board are increasing in popularity, people are looking for an affordable solution to playback CDs and DVDs or install software from a disc", said a company spokesperson.

The eTDU108 has a top-loading design, weighs 300g, is entirely USB-powered, and comes in black and white. Excitingly, the company says additional colours might be available at a later date.

The eTDU108 will be available in July and cost £35.
