Wikipedia, the smash hit crowd-sourced encyclopaedia, has announced that its Arbitration Committee has voted 10-0 (with one abstention) to ban the Church of Scientology from editing the site, with immediate effect.

The arbitration against the church has been running since December 2008, and has finally come to an end. It came about due to "persistent point-of-view pushing and extensive feuding over sources on multiple articles".

From now on, IP addresses owned by the church and its associates will find themselves unable to make changes to any articles on the site. Additionally, a number of accounts have been closed and blocked from any IP address.

The ban of the church from Wikipedia comes only a few days after court action in France was announced which could see the organisation being dissolved in that country.
