Police have announced that they'll be setting up virtual courtrooms in major shopping centres across the UK. In an attempt to improve the speed at which justice gets done, petty criminals will be sentenced by video link to magistrates.
London's first court is at Charing Cross police station, and it's linked to Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court. It's already dealt with two drink-driving cases but while it's in a trial period, suspects still have the option to appear in front of a traditional court.
Justice Secretary Jack Straw said: “Virtual courts have the potential to transform how the justice system deals with crimes. The faster we get justice done, the more we improve confidence in the criminal justice system as a whole.
