Napster has plans to attract more customers by relaunching as a web-based platform that will mean users can play their music from any computer without having to download any additional software.

Opening up the service, and making it compatible with any internet-enabled device is different from how the site worked before when Napster subscribers could only listen to their music after downloading the Napster software application on to their personal computers.

"With this new platform Napster can easily be integrated into consumer electronics devices or integrated into other Web sites such as social networking sites", said Christopher Allen, chief operating officer at Napster.

Napster says it has 770,000 subscribers and charges from around $10 a month for its subscription-based service.
