The Automobile Association has released a version of its Navigator software designed for use on PDAs and smartphones.

AA Navigator 2007 is supported by Windows Mobile 2003 and Mobile 5 Pocket PCs and smartphones.

It's being launched with a choice of two mapping regions: The UK and the Republic of Ireland, which costs £80, or the whole of Western Europe for £100. Maps of the US and Canada will follow.

The 2007 version features a choice of Full or Easy Navigation; Easy lets you find a destination by postcode, point of interest, or town name.

Instructions are given via schematics, 2D and 3D maps, and male or female voices. Points of Interest are derived from the AA's database, and include restaurants, hotels, pubs, cafes, golf courses, and tourist attractions.

The software comes with 30 days free speed camera alerts; a year's alerts will cost you £100.
