Andrew Lloyd Webber has cut a deal with Universal Music that gives the company the worldwide rights to market and digitally distribute his songs.

Universal Music will therefore be able to offer tracks from all of Webber’s productions, including music from the new production of “Evita”, as well as from “Cats” and “Phantom of the Opera” online for downloading.

These will be available from 22 August.

Some tracks will also be available as mobile phone ringtones, as the deal covers distribution on mobile devices as well.

Lloyd Webber, through his Really Useful Group, has also given Universal Music the rights to the album from the latest production of “The Sound of Music”, which will star the winner of the BBC’s “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?”
