Yahoo has decided that widgets are the way to dominate computer users over the next couple of years with the announcement that it has bought Pixoria the makers of Konfabulator.
Konfabulator is a Macintosh and Windows application that allows users to run applications known as Widgets on their desktop such as stock quotes and weather reports without using a Web browser.
Yahoo! has said it purchased Konfabulator because it wanted an easy way to open up its APIs to the developer community and allow them easy access to the information on the Yahoo! Web site.
Konfabulator was originally created for Apple OS10.3 and works in a similar way to Apple's own widget application, Dashboard, in its latest operating system OS10.4. When OS10.4 launched earlier in the year, the Konfabulator team made the application available to windows users to give them the same benefits.
Up until today, users of Konfabulator were charged $20 for the application. The new agreement will mean that the $20 price tag will also be dropped.
