Yahoo has increased its free mail storage capacity four times from 250Mb to 1Gb following the move from its main compeitor Google, that as of the 1st April, users of its GMail service will have 1GB of storage at their disposal.

Users of the free mail service will see the upgrade to storage over April with Yahoo promising to get the job done by the end of the month.

Also thrown into the mix is the addition of Symantec's email virus software to scan and stop dodgy emails coming through as well as the ability to detach email attachments, something previously only available to paying Yahoo users.

Expect more to come from Google and other free webmail services such as Hotmail as the battle for customers continues.
