Alexa is able to handle Skype calls, and eligible hardware, such as the Echo Show, will support Skype video calling. This integration also lets Skype users call mobile and landlines. Here's how everything works.

How to use Alexa to make a Skype call

Getting started

First of all, make sure you have a Skype account and that you've installed the Alexa app and set it up with your compatible Alexa device.

Set up Skype on your Alexa device

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Go to Settings > Communication > Skype to link your accounts.
  3. Sign in using the same Microsoft account you use on Skype.

Ask Alexa to call any of your Skype contacts

Simply ask Alexa to call your Skype contact. It doesn't matter which device they're using. Also, if the person you’re trying to reach isn’t on Skype, you can read their phone number out loud to call them. Try one of these example commands:

  • “Alexa, call [contact name] on Skype."
  • “Alexa, call [phone number] on Skype."
  • “Alexa, pick up."

Which Alexa devices are compatible?

The following Alexa devices support Skype:

  • Amazon Echo (all versions)
  • Amazon Echo Plus (all versions)
  • Amazon Dot (2nd Gen or later)
  • Amazon Show (all versions)
  • Amazon Echo Spot

Are there any limitations?

Yes. You get 100 minutes of free Skype calls (to mobiles and landlines in 34 countries) per month for two months. Go here to read the fine print.
