NBCUniversal has teamed with Stereo for an iPad companion app designed to give you more info about Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy than ever before.

Beyond the Screen will launch officially on Friday and offers a wide range of trivia, including cameos, filming locations, soundtrack info, film references and quotes from Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End - three of the most revered British comedies.

It works by synchronising with each film's soundtrack to offer appropriate content for scenes as they play, rather than through a home network like other second-screen experiences. Using the iPad's built-in microphone, it recognises where you are in the film and gives you the related interactive element.

The app also has a "Freezer" to store  moments from each of the films which, once collected, open a series of prizes. It also has links to stream the soundtrack albums on Spotify or purchase them through iTunes. And a Pub Quiz section will test fans' knowledge of the series.

Beyond the Screen is specific to the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy at present, but the technology could be used on future home movie releases. The fully-featured app will be available from iTunes on Friday 7 March.
