Channel 4 has updated its 4oD application for both iOS and Android devices. Like BBC iPlayer, the television catch-up and video on demand app now includes a download feature so you can watch shows offline.

After the mandatory update, many shows will have a small download symbol underneath their thumbnail at the bottom of the screen. Click on this and you will be able store it on your device, to watch when not connected to the internet. Not all programming is available for download, just the last 30-days' worth of catch-up TV - shows that were shown on Channel 4 or its other digital stations in the past month.

Files are offered in standard definition and first appear in a queue as they download. You will have seven days to watch the content after it has been downloaded.

To be able to download video, you will need to sign into the 4oD service and give it your address.

Another new feature with this update is Collections. The editorial team will suggest compilations of TV shows linked by a common theme or subject matter.

The 4oD app v3.0 is available as a free download on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Access to the content is free because the channel uses advertising throughout.
