For the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games, The Weather Channel has added all 36 venues to its forecasting service. It has also applied its proprietary TruPoint weather forecast technology to provide accurate information to within 1.5 miles of each location.

The venues are accessible through the service's own website ( and as part of its iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android applications. Just search for the venue of your choice on the mobile apps and you can get all manner of short-term forecasts.

In addition, as soon as the Games start, a dedicated section of the online site will be able to see and access an updated medal count and curated content, news articles, weather-related stories, images and videos.

The TruPoint forecasting system, which also provides accurate information on other locations searched for or pinpointed through a mobile device, is an algorithm that uses multiple relevant sources, including National Weather Service observations, computer prediction modelling and more.

It offers forecasts that are split into 15-minute segments over a six-hour period, so can tell you exactly when to get your brolly out, or slap on the sun cream.

Looking at the forecast for the Games, we suspect it will be the former.
