Attention entrepreneurs! Kickstarter, the US-based crowd funding website is coming to the UK, with projects being able to generate money from donations and investments from autumn.
The announcement was made on Kickstarter’s official Twitter page, with the tweet: “People in the UK will be able to launch projects on Kickstarter starting this autumn! More info soon! <3 <3 <3”
Previously for any project to be able to source money through the website, there would need to be at least one US citizen, complete with US address, social security number and passport involved with the start-up. By launching a UK-specific version of the site, this will no longer be the case.
Kickstarter was launched in 2008 and has helped fund projects from computer games to music speakers. One of the biggest success stories from Kickstarter is the Pebble e-paper watch, that raised a total of $3 million in less than a week from various donations generated on the site.
