Could Yahoo be looking to buy out popular news website The Huffington Post? Quite possibly - when asked directly if this was the case at the Future of Media event in New York neither party went out of its way to deny the rumours.

Speaking at the event at NYU, Yahoo's media VP James Pitaro stated that Yahoo doesn't “comment on rumours or speculation”. He went on to say, however, that Yahoo has a “fantastic relationship” with The Huffington Post and  that Yahoo was “always looking at different opportunities” with its media partners.

When Huffington Post founder and editor Arianna Huffington was asked if the website was for sale, she didn't give too much away and instead stated that “we're very happy with our relationship with Yahoo”.

Earlier in the proceedings Pitaro had stated that Yahoo was planning on extending its news network with a pro-am approach of paid journalists and talented bloggers. Could buying The Huffington Post be the next step in that process? We shall see.

What do you lot think? Would the HuffPo lose some of its reputation as a progressive news outlet if it fell under Yahoo's banner? Let us know the usual way.
