Antivirus company F-Secure has rolled out Anti-theft and Security software for Android, which includes browsing protection against malware sites and the ability to lock the handset and wipe it remotely if it's lost or stolen.

The remote lock can be used to render the device inoperable just be sending an SMS message from another handset. If the SIM card is changed, then the phone will be locked and the information contained on the new SIM will be sent to the original owner. Browser protection identifies phishing and malware sites and blocks them from access.

It's the first set of Android products for the company, which offers mobile security for Nokia and Windows Mobile devices already. F-Secure's Patrik Sallner said: "F-Secure has been protecting mobile devices for a full decade and we are proud to introduce our first products for the fast-growing Android platform. Our Anti-Theft for Mobile adds a valuable level of extra security for smartphone users".

Unfortunately, though, it's only compatible with Android 1.6 - with the company listing the HTC Dream (G1), Magic and Tattoo handsets as the only ones that work with the software. It costs £50 for 24 months, or £30 for 12, though at the time of writing the company is offering 50% off that price. It's available now.
