      £99.99 (16GB)
    • Pentax K-x DSLR camera . Cameras, DSLR cameras, Pentax, Pentax K-x, 12 megapixels 0

      Price
      £599 with 18-55mm kit lens

DSLR-like features and picture quality, but with the convenience and portability of a compact, albeit one with a solid feel aluminium construction
      The Bad
Pricey either with or without lens combination. Requires investment in a new camera system from scratch. EVF costs extra
      Verdict
Capable and compact Micro Four Thirds system offering from Panasonic proves the company’s most successful realisation of "DSLR quality without the bulk" to date
      Price
£570 (body only) or £800 with 20mm pancake lens
    • Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX60 compact camera . Cameras, Compact cameras, Digital cameras, Panasonic, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX60, 12 megapixels 0

    • X-Men Origins: Wolverine - DVD . Home Cinema, DVD 0

      X-Men Origins: Wolverine - DVD

3.0 Is this just a case of franchise expansion? 16 October 2009 12:00 GMT
      The Good
It’s a solid companion to the X-Men trilogy, and Hugh Jackman effortlessly nails the part. And surprisingly, the appearance of The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am causes no distress
      The Bad
Some underwhelming casting and the sense that franchise expansion was the prime aim
      Verdict
It’s a dynamic, entertaining and solid piece of cinema that won’t disappoint fans of the series - yet it won’t wow them either
      Price
      £19.99

      The Good
Solid feel construction, vari-angle LCD, better results at higher ISOs than we’ve witnessed from competing brands (if staying at or below ISO 3200)
      The Bad
Standard definition video, still priced the same as an entry level DSLR (albeit a cheaper option than buying DSLR plus lens with equivalent focal range)
      Verdict
Solid feel contender for enthusiastic amateurs wanting a more portable back up for their existing DSLR, without sacrificing too much in the way of manual control. Shame no HD video though, and the price may cause eyes to water
      Price
      £569
    • Ricoh CX2 digital camera . Cameras, Digital cameras, Ricoh, Ricoh CX2, 9 megapixels 0

      Ricoh CX2 digital camera

      The Good
LCD, low ISO image quality, easy to use, features, build, auto level indication
      The Bad
No optical viewfinder, high ISO image noise, longer zoom creates camera shake issues
      Verdict
The Ricoh CX2 is undoubtedly a machine for the more advanced user, but offers image quality to match for those that know what they’re doing and is easy enough to use
      Price
      £300

      The Bad
Presentation a little disappointing, wealth of options available can be daunting, occasional graphical glitches
      Verdict

      Price
      £195.73

      Crank: High Voltage - DVD

      4.0 A wind-up or a turn-on? 11 September 2009 12:00 GMT
      The Good
The insanely paced, tongue-in-cheek direction means it’s never less than totally compelling
      The Bad
Despite its dubious merits it’s also visibly risible, and just as likely to aggravate as amuse. And Geri Halliwell makes an appearance. I repeat, Geri Halliwell makes an appearance
      Verdict
An absurdist bonanza of sex and violence that delivers a constant stream of gags and shocks, Crank: High Voltage will simultaneously appal and enthral – indifference isn’t an option
      Price
      £17.99
    • Observe and Report - DVD . Home Cinema, DVD 0

      Observe and Report - DVD

2.5 "I thought this was gonna be funny, but it’s actually quite sad" 25 September 2009 12:00 GMT
      The Good
Seth Rogan’s mom gets all the bomb one-liners, and swell rapping swear-fountain Amanda Blank features on the soundtrack
      The Bad
The sense that this could have been plenty better – Rogan, Liotta and Faris aren’t given anyway near good enough material to work with here
      Verdict
“You know, I thought this was gonna be funny, but it’s actually quite sad”. That says it all
      Price
      £15.99

The greatest collection of one-liners ever assembled – and the incomparable Malcolm Tucker
      The Bad
James Gandolfini’s presence feels little more than a decorative bauble
      Verdict
Savvy, cool, funny, hugely likable and utterly memorable, In The Loop is must-viewing for anybody with even the vaguest passing interest in Britcoms
      Price
      £17.99

      The Good
Comfortable, compact design, robust case, stylish
      The Bad
Muddled over bassy sound that drowns out the mid-range and trebles

      The Bad
      Touch on the expensive side
      Verdict
On the surface there isn't much to the GigaWorks T3 speaker system, but it delivers the results that you'll want and for us that's the important bit
      Price
      £160

      The Good
Excellent image quality and ergonomics, menu system and info panel, good control and custom modes, HD movie mode
      The Bad
Price: the extra cost for the new goodies - even the HD movies - might not seem worth paying for the upgrade, detail loss in shadow areas
      Verdict
Another stunning new Nikon DX format DSLR that combines the performance and handling panache of its predecessor with HD video and other neat toys that may just make it worth your reaching for your cheque book
      Price
      £1499.99 (body only)

    • Sigma DP2 digital camera . Cameras, Compact cameras, 14 megapixels, Digital cameras, Sigma, Sigma DP2 0

      Sigma DP2 digital camera

3.5 Does this fixed lens compact live up to its DSLR-like claims? 1 September 2009 10:39 GMT
      The Good
Excellent lens, wealth of hands-on control, works best when attempting images with a shallow depth of field
      The Bad
Expensive, variable white balance if left in auto mode, washed out de-saturated colours, plasticky feel to build, occasional operational freezes
      Verdict
The Sigma DP2 won’t appeal to everybody, and that’s largely by design. It works best when viewed as a compact back-up to an existing DSLR, or an experimental supplement to a more fully-featured, user-friendly digital compact
      Price
      £599
    • Pentax X70 digital camera . Cameras, Digital cameras, 12 megapixels, Pentax, Pentax X70 0

      Pentax X70 digital camera

3.5 Does this compact 24x zoom bridge camera get closer to perfection? 16 September 2009 9:00 GMT
      The Good
Big zoom capability from relatively compact dimensions, easy to use intuitive operation for the most part, good results achievable shooting handheld if plenty of light available
      The Bad
Plasticy build, resolution drops when choosing faster capture setting, no RAW capture option, disappointing results at ISO 800 and above, zoom disabled when shooting video
      Verdict
Like many big zoom cameras that try and do it all, there’s as much here to delight as disappoint. The wider creative possibilities offered by that broader focal range shouldn’t be underestimated, and, once used, going back to that 3x zoom compact will seem tough
      Price
      £369.99
    • Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 digital camera . Cameras, Digital cameras, Compact cameras, Fujifilm, Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1, 3DTV, 10 megapixels 0

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 digital camera

3.5 Will this bring your 3D world to life? 23 September 2009 10:04 GMT
      The Good
Easy to create 3D content, creative controls for 2D and 3D shooting modes
      The Bad
Size, price, current 3D format sharing barriers, no supplied software solution, poor menus
      Verdict
It is currently niche, certainly, and won't break into the mainstream for as long as viewing your results presents a problem. But once we all have 3DTVs in our lounge, you'll remember the W1 as the innovative camera it is
      Price
      £430
    • Nikon D3000 DSLR camera . Cameras, DSLR cameras, Nikon, Nikon D3000, 10 megapixels 0

      Nikon D3000 DSLR camera

      4.0 Does Nikon's new entry-level DLSR steal the limelight? 25 August 2009 12:00 GMT
      The Good
Small, lightweight yet sturdy construction, reliable results and responsive in operation, intuitive to use with or without Intelligent Guide deployed
      The Bad
No Live View option, no movies of any description, no built-in anti-shake
      Verdict
Though some may find Nikon’s implementation of an on-board help guide with large print text and bright graphics on the D3000 patronising, there’s no denying it’s a clever way to widen its traditionally specialist user base and attract new converts – even if we did miss use of Live View when attempting shots from otherwise tricky angles on occasion
      Price
      £429.99 (body only)/£499.99 (18-55mm VR lens)
    • Olympus Mju 7010 digital camera . Cameras, Compact cameras, Olympus, Digital cameras, 12 megapixels, Olympus Mju 7010 0

      Olympus Mju 7010 digital camera

3.0 Is this 12MP pocket snapper truly magical? 24 August 2009 19:41 GMT
      The Good
User friendly operation, solid construction, portably pocket sized, quick and responsive for the most part
      The Bad
Still images are flat and dull in appearance straight out of the camera (if not utilising magic effects filters), with loss of focus towards frame edges when shooting at maximum wide angle. No HD movies, which seems amiss when similarly priced rivals are offering this
      Verdict
The Mju 7010 misses out on the latest must-have of HD video, but makes up in part by incorporating a 7x optical zoom and fun effects filters. Shame then that image quality is below par and in many other respects this model feels simply average
      Price
      £249
    • Creative Jukebox 3

      Creative Jukebox 3

      3.5 1 October 2003 0:00 GMT
      The Good
Single battery; added FireWire; lighter; bigger hard disk
      The Bad
CD Player size may still be too big for some
      Verdict
Now the next Jukebox will have superseded this model, but it had good foundations to build on so check the predecessor out
      Price
      £299
