What we love about this site is that we've all had ideas just like these. We've all sat round many a pub table and sketched winning ideas onto a beer mat and then spent the rest of the evening dreaming of how to spend the untold millions that are sure to pour in when we get our glow-in-the-dark rollerskates for cats onto the market. (No joy yet, but we're working on it...)

It warms the cockles of this journalist's heart to see that there are still people out there who just want to go faster and faster, just because they can. I'm not talking about boy racers in their Citroen Saxos making a nuisance of themselves on British roads though.

Meet Bloodhound. This latest British effort to break the land speed record is all about the numbers:

135,000 horsepower.

3 engines.

3G - the forces experienced by its driver, Wing Commander Andy Green.

Oh and 1000mph.

Crikey.

But what's best about this project is that there is a point to it, beyond just saying that it's the fastest car that's ever been made. The Bloodhound project will share its technical research with over 25,000 UK schools already enrolled in its education programme. That means those numbers will have a real relevance and might just inspire the next generation of engineers.

It was with a certain amount of trepidation that I went searching for this one. It's not normally the sort of thing I'd type into Google.

I'd like to believe that the people behind this site didn't think about the sniggers and smirks that their URL might generate, but I reckon in this day and age there was a knowing smile from all concerned when they set it up.

Anyway, if you've ventured into a pet shop in recent years you'll have seen that accessories and clothing for dogs has become big business.

My dog is never happier than when she's wearing a head to paw covering of mud (or sometimes worse) so I find it hard to believe that there's much of a market for this stuff.

But there is and this site caters for the most discerning of canine tastes.

I had a horrible experience the other day. I was at a mate's house and enough, ahem, "refreshment" had been consumed that we thought it would be good idea to get the Wii Fit out of the cupboard.

On I stepped and it went through the measurement process before I could start. I won't share the numbers, but when a video game tells you you're not as light as you used to be, it's time to do something about it.

That's why this is great for me. I can download fitness videos and sweat, wheeze, grunt and groan my way through them in the privacy of my own home. It's not a pretty sight - even the dog leaves the room…

But no pain, no gain, right?

Their mobile offering, the TG01, is grabbing headlines all over the place, their laptops are selling well and their TVs regularly come top in user tests, especially since they brought us the simply magnificent Dolby Volume which evens out the advertisers’ dreaded shouty volume spikes.

But do corporate blogs work? Not too sure about that in most cases, but at least Toshiba aren’t ramming this one down people’s throats – its only marketing is word of mouth and web searches.
