And the nominees are...

Here are the nominations for Best Video Game in The Vodafone Pocket-lint Gadget Awards 2009.

The following products were chosen because we feel they represent the best video games on sale in the last 12 months that are available in the UK.

The nominations are:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Guitar Hero 5

Battlefield 1943

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Now in its 6th year, the Pocket-lint Gadget Awards, thought to be the longest running in the UK, pick the best gadgets and gizmos from the last year released in the UK

Pocket-lint's vigorous vetting process means that all the gadgets up for nomination have to have been seen by a member of the Pocket-lint team (so far over 600) and have to have been available in the UK between December 2008 and December 2009.

The awards, voted by a panel of leading gadget journalists from around the world, including the staff from the Pocket-lint team, will decide the real must-have gadgets of the year, rather than those simply deemed cool or anticipated, being the definitive guide for consumers looking to buy gadgets.

Winners will be announced at an Awards evening in London on Monday 7 December.

NEWS: Warner Bros creates Where The Wild Things Are iPhone app

Where wild things eat your contacts

Warner Bros is offering an iPhone app to celebrate the release of the forthcoming film of the beloved children's book, "Where The Wild Things Are".

The film - from Spike Jonze and with collaboration from the book's author Maurice Sendak - hits the big screen this month.

The iPhone app includes pics from the movies that can be set as wallpaper, trailers and clips from the film, some of the movie's soundtrack and official movie posters.

So far so standard, but there's also the opportunity to interact with one of the wild things, Carol, where you can have a mud fight, get him to dance to your music and see him eat up your photos and contacts, the last of which has got to delight any kid.

NEWS: Revolutionary gaming co OnLive secures "major investment"

We haven't heard much OnLive news since it was announced back in March, but the company has just revealed, via its blog, that things are looking good for the future of the games service thanks to some new funding.

OnLive has received a "major" boost to its bank balance with investment from companies including AT&T Media Holdings, Lauder Partners, Warner Bros, Autodesk and Maverick Capital.

OnLive is described as "a revolutionary, on demand video game platform delivering the latest and most advanced games instantly, on any TV via a sleek, inexpensive MicroConsole, or on almost any PC or Mac".

The blog states: "We are both pleased and inspired that our investors share this vision with OnLive. Not only do they see the value in OnLive in particular, but they also understand the significance of what OnLive is doing to lead a massive sea change in interactive media distribution".

Only time will tell whether the service can deliver on its promise of no high-end hardware, no upgrades, no endless downloads, no discs, no recalls and no obsolescence.
