The lightsaber has finally come to the Wii, but is it the excitement that you've been waiting for? We feel the force to find out.Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, is the rehash of the Sony PlayStation games from last year. Joining the two Lego Star Wars games together you get to play all six movies rather than having to swap out disks halfway through if you wanted to jump from the original to new trilogy.
Available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo Wii, the Wii's enhancements and unique selling point is that you can control your characters attack moves via the Wii Remote, however you do lose out on being able to play co-op online as with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
Starting in a the Cantina bar you can play any of the six movies from the two previous games simply by walking through the door to that film. A new console means a quick reworking of the graphics and both previous versions have been reworked to look better and perform better here on the Wii.
Likewise new characters have been added like Watto, Zam Wessell, and Boss Nass bringing the total character count to 160.
To keep the interest up even further, there are now a series of Bounty Hunter only missions.
There are also improvements to character skills so you don't have to be a Jedi to build stuff.
As for gameplay, the Lego Star Wars games are great fun as you blast or lightsaber Lego characters into pieces. Any Lego or Star Wars fan is going to love it. Fighting the Lego Rancor is entertaining in itself for example.
As for the Wii controls, well it's not the lightsaber experience that you're probably after and perhaps realising this, Lucas Arts have made sure that you can use the "B" button for attack just in case you get bored.
And bored of swashbuckling your way to the end of the level you will as Yoda would say. It's tiring and tedious work hacking your way through drone, Stormtropper or those funny pig things from Return of the Jedi.
Verdict
As a Star Wars game, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga on the Wii is great. As a Lego game, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga on the Wii is great. As the game that will give you the chance to relive the classic films with the lightsaber in your hand it's not so great.
A thumbs up, but not for the reason you'll probably want to buy it for.
