  • DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS XP. When the "ActiveCare" module starts up -- and you CANNOT disable it -- it will lock up your system, hard. A power-off is required to reboot. Iolo's license agreement disclaims all functionality of the software, including the fact that it "may cause damage" to your PC, which they're not responsible for. You cannot get a refund from the store, nor will Iolo refund your money (at least not all of it) unless you jump through a lot of hoops and spend even MORE money sending them the box. • Not worth the money.
System mechanic ran great on my system for 2 months. Then it wouldn't load at all. I corresponded with Iolo several times, got nothing but canned responses that didn't solve a thing. It's now been 6 months w/o access to this program. Think at this point, I can call it worthless?

  • RUN AWAY! The software reduced my internet connectivity by turning off BITS and something else I have not yet figured out that requires outbound smtp port 25 traffic to be submitted a dozen times or more before success. Iolo was unresponsive to email, their webform was useless after the changes their software made to my system, and a phone call to Paul in tech support got a promise to "escalate my issue" but no follow-up communication. • SM 9 and 9.5--takes forever to get running, jams my system, and IOLO tech support has not responded to now two requests for help. Used to be a good product. I think I have to dump it. Posted by Kathleen Wilkes, usa
  • System Mechanic sees my encrypted (banking) files as clutter and deletes them every time. No option to list exceptions. Not a sophisticated tool. Posted by bob williams, USA
