  • "and if you are still using a 2- or 3-year-old camera then it might be worth upgrading to this rather than buying a phone and a camera separately."

I don't think so, megapixels mean nothing if put with a puny lens like the one on this or any other phone. having anything larger than 2 or 3 megapixels on a phone is just going to show off the lack of clarity in the lens and give you a larger file size. If you shove a 50megapixel sensor in there its still gonna be terrible quality.
Same goes for compact cameras, people are being conned into thinking a 12 megapixel compact is better than a 4 or 5 megapixel.
I've got an 8 megapixel DSLR, and its taken a £950 professional lens to take advantage of it and give a perfectly clear image, previous cheaper lenses I had would show up imperfections when you zoom right in. There is a good reason pro lenses are expensive.
I used to have a 2 megapixel canon a40 about 6 years ago, it took far better photos than any camera phone I've ever seen, my current phone is an n95 8gig,

All I'm saying is, don't be fooled by the ever increasing numbers of megapixels. Sensors will always get cheaper and cheaper to make, but glass is glass so it won't make a difference.
