  • It's nowhere near the first GPS-based speed camera detector, I've had my Talex for 4 years and it it had been around a while when I got it. That only cost me £40 too. And you can use it as a USB GPS receiver.

I had speed camera alerts on the TomTom for a while, but so many of the speed limits are wrong in the database I gave up on it.

  • You guys are missing the point. This thing does not only have a GPS built-in but also a GSM/GPRS connection (sim card inside, hence also the monthly subscription fee).

This allows for real-time updates on MOBILE speed cameras. Many GPS systems can (more or less accurately) indicate the fixed speed cameras, but a trustworthy system for mobile devices is very rare.

As soon as anyone detects a mobile camera on the road, they push a button on the device and 6 seconds (!) later any other mini Coyote on that road and approaching the camera will sound the alarm... and this for the next 3 hours after the detection of the camera. Special rules on the Coyote server avoid abuse and pranksters.

As far as you don't see picking it up, in France there are over 120.000 users. It is widely popular... In Belgium there are more than 11.000 users in just a few months.
